The Promise Land

I’m going to start my email a little different this time, this picture should describe how my new area is going so far!

I love it! It’s a little different from Jasper, a lot more populated than I was use to, but very happy to be here! I love the flowery branch ward, the members are amazing! Now because we are a bike area (which I love!) the members are willing to pick us up and take us to appointments and places which is super sweet! They are very into missionary work and love to help us in any way that they can.

image2They call this area the promise land, because it’s so awesome! They have had 9 baptisms in the past 6 months. The missionary work here is great but the past couple weeks it has slowed down a bit, but we fixed that really quick (: as of Sunday night we found 4 new investigators and the work is picking up a lot more.

The biking isn’t as bad as I thought it would be, it’s actually super fun even though it’s very hilly here, I almost prefer biking over car to be honest. You get a good work out(: On Saturday we got a call from our district leader asking if we could try something out for them, they asked if we could go to a gas station and ask people if we could wash their windshields for them. While one person washes the other shares a message with the person. Which wasn’t that bad of an idea!

image4So we tested it out, the first few people said no but we shared a message with them anyways because we learned real quickly that they can’t escape cause they are stuck filling up their gas haha. After a few good conversations we ran into a lady that decided she wanted to have an argument right then and there.

So we decided to have some fun and instead of saying we don’t want to bash and leave, we decided to stay and see what she had to say. She didn’t like us at all because she said we don’t deserve to be called an elder in the church cause an elder is an old person in the bible, we weren’t old. I got to the point where I just started messing with her.

 Lady: That’s like saying you’re a prophet
Me: Well I’m not.
Lady: I know I’m just saying
Me: Well I’m just saying I’m not a prophet, you’re saying I’m a prophet and I’m not
She was getting so frustrated and mad cause she was trying to use an example and I was taking her literally. I started laughing when she was trying to be serious and said let’s agree to disagree and I shook her hand. It was so funny, in times like that you have to have a little fun cause they aren’t going to change their mind no matter what you tell them.

I asked her how did Moses become a prophet

image1Lady: Because he was given that authority by God
Me: Exactly and that’s how Joseph smith was called as a prophet and ever since him that authority was passed on.
She tried saying we were wrong when she literally just said it was possible. I love people(:

On Sunday we asked the bishop for a blessing to help us be more inspired to where we need to go, we asked the bishop because he is in charge of our area. The words that were spoken in the blessing were truly from God and answered a lot of questions I had been thinking about.

I’m excited for what’s in store for this area and how we can help it grow! But so far so good! I hope y’all have a great week! I love you!

Love,
Elder Summers
