The Book of Mormon Experiment

Hey everyone! Another week has passed as you already know it was kind of an exciting week! On Friday it was announced at a mission conference that our mission has now become on online  proselyting mission which is very exciting!

It opens up a new way for us to communicate with the people we teach. Friday wasn’t just the day they announced Facebook they also released to us new phones, so instead of little slide phones we now have smart phones which is very helpful, and they also showed us a cool experiment that has been going on here in the Georgia Atlanta North Mission.

So over the past week the Athens Zone has been testing out a new way of sharing the Book of Mormon with people. They did an experiment on the UGA campus where they hand a page of the Book of Mormon to someone and ask them to read it and highlight anything relating to God or Jesus Christ. Following their reading the missionaries and the members that were helping out would ask simple questions about what they read, how they felt, what they learned etc.

To the surprise of many every page (besides 6) mentions God or Jesus Christ, and even the six that don’t, people still learned something new from them. It opened the eyes of over 600 people in just the span of a few days that the Book of Mormon is a very insightful religious text to help us understand more about our Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ.

Elder Scoresby and I decided to try it for ourselves at a local park and it was amazing to see the things people were learning from just ONE page! Every word of the Book of Mormon was recorded the way it needed to be to help us in our trials and in these times.

It was written for us, so we may learn and come to a better understanding of this life. My invitation to you this week is to read a page of the Book of Mormon and see what you can find. If you don’t have a copy of the Book of Mormon you can look it up on Lds.org and there you can search it.

But I want you to earnestly seek out a message, read for a better understanding, take your time with each verse to grasp what it is saying because behind each verse is a message we can learn. I challenge you to take time each day to simply read the Book of Mormon as we have been directed by modern prophets and apostles of the church, and as you do so I can promise you the Lord will bless your life.

I know that the Book of Mormon is another Testament of Jesus Christ. It has brought me closer to God than any other book and because of its truthfulness and my willingness to seek out if it is true I have seen it bless my life and the lives of those around me.

I love all of you and I hope you have a wonderful week!

Love,

Elder Summers
