This week was a little on the crazy side, as you can tell by the title we had a winter wonderland!! I was not expecting it to snow this week but when it did, it snowed quite a bit.
We built a snow man and put a tag on him so he’s one of us, his name is Elder Frosty and he’s a stud, he’s super chill and he always has a smile on his face, I love him! But Elder Frosty wasn’t the only highlight of the week.
So we found out on Sunday that Elder Scoresby will be leaving to share the gospel in the Sugarhill Ward and I’ll be getting Elder Alldredge! He came out the same time as Elder Scoresby and he just finished getting trained by Elder Holt who was my MTC companion so we are gonna have a blast here in Dacula! I’m sad to be losing Elder Scoresby, he and I have been seeing some great work here.
This week we went knocking doors in an apartment complex and I don’t know how many of you are familiar with the talk By President Dieter F. Uchtdorf titled “Fourth Floor Last Door” but we had one of those experiences.
Were weren’t having much success on the first few floors of this complex, we had a few people who answered but weren’t interested, and some didn’t even answer the door. We were running out of time before we had to go meet with someone so we were debating if we should stop there and leave to the appointment but the Spirit kept telling us to keep going.
It wasn’t until we reached the last floor and knocked on the last door that a lady opened and expressed to us that she was going through a hard time and wasn’t sure if she could provide presents for her kids this Christmas. When we talked to her about the true meaning of Christmas and shared the new Light the World video it changed her outlook on things, she expressed how she had gotten so caught up in the spirit of receiving that her focus was less on giving.
This lady has family who are part of the church and has been wanting to learn more about it so we were able to schedule a time to come back. But the biggest take away from this was the fact that Christmas is a season of giving, God GAVE His son Jesus Christ to us so that we could live with Him again, He sacrificed Him to help us.
I know things may be hard to sacrifice things but as a hymn says, “Sacrifice brings forth the blessings of Heaven.” When we give to others we gain something much greater than a materialistic object, we gain the love and comfort from the Spirit.
I’ve never seen so many people open their door with a smile on their face and running around trying to gather their family to hear us sing Christmas songs. For some people they haven’t seen carolers in their neighborhood and they have lived their for 18 years! So it was amazing to see the joy on their faces.
One person let all 6 of us in and we were able to share the Light the World video with them and we even cleared up some misconceptions about our church. When they found out we believed in Christ their eyes lit up! It was awesome! But it shows that through the littlest things like singing a song, you can see miracles happen.
I hope everyone has a wonderful week, stay warm, and stay frosty!
