What a week! First off General Conference was a spiritual bomb!
Sitting in the chapel and hearing the prophet announce some new changes was a spiritual experience I’ll never forget. Immediately after the announcements the Spirit bore powerful testimony that these changes were indeed the direction from God and they are what we need for our time now.
We are so blessed to have a prophet like President Russell M. Nelson, it was so amazing to hear from him as well as the apostles this weekend and also reflect on the sacrifice of our savior Jesus Christ.
One evening after dinner we went out with one of the members to visit a home where the Nephew, who at the time we thought was the son, was a member but his legal Guardian was not.
When we arrived at the house a car pulled up and parked in front of us. We got out and went to knock on the door but the person in the car got out and told us no one is going to answer. As they got closer it was the legal guardian coming to unlock the door ha.
We went went inside the home with them and as we sat down and talked we learned that the nephew no longer lived there. As we discussed more we found out that this young woman had met with missionaries in the past but after a transfer missionaries never got information to go back so she just slipped through the cracks and hadn’t met with missionaries since.
Unfortunately in the beginning she told us she was content with her church but had such a welcoming attitude that we continued to discuss her interest in our church, if there was one.
As the evening went on and we talked more we started to see something amazing happen. Her heart started to soften the more we talked and she told us that she doesn’t fully agree with the things that are taught in her church but she attends because she knows it’s for her personal relationship with God and not the imperfect people in it.
But then what was the cherry on top of the whole conversation was at the end when she told us that when she pulled up to her house and saw us she said she had the impression that it wasn’t by coincidence that we were there and she knew it was from God.
At this point I’m thinking holy cow what!!! We left her with some Scriptures to read and a specific instruction to pray about what she reads.
Prayer is the key to pretty much everything. Like we heard from our prophet this weekend, we all have the ability to receive personal revelation, and prayer is where it starts. That’s how we gain testimonies, and find comfort, or help.
When we ask God He answers us. I’m so grateful for prayer and for living prophets who guide us. I’m grateful for the spirit that is a personal compass who directs and prompts us of where to go, what to do, and what to say.
This gospel is such a remarkable blessing in my life.
